Job summary

The Salvation Army in Vancouver is seeking a Transitional Housing Intake & Caseworker for Grace Mansion. You will support residents with personal development, life skills, and social activities to help them achieve their potential.

Responsibilities include intake, case management, and administrative duties, plus coordinating with medical, educational and community resources. Maintain confidential records and participate in staff meetings to ensure safety and program quality.

Qualifications

• Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of two academic years.
• Training/Certification in Addictions and/or Mental Health issues.
• Current Certification in First Aid/CPR.
• Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, or willingness to be trained.
• WHMIS 2015 Certification in FOODSAFE Level 1 Universal precautions
• Criminal Record Review Act clearance to work with vulnerable adults
• Fluent spoken and written English.
• An alternative combination of education and experience might be considered.

Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY: The Transitional Housing Intake & Caseworker will work with the Residents of Grace Mansion in all areas of personal development and growth, life skills, and social and spiritual activities to enable the residents to attain their full potential.

Accountabilities

Intake Monitor resident occupancy levels and keep updated with move-in and move-out of residents. Perform intake of new clients by conducting reference checks for prospective clients Create new client files, interview prospective clients and callers, and collect required documentation for intake of clients to ensure program criteria are met. Conduct orientation with clients and review the facility rules, clients’ rights and responsibilities, grievance/complaint. Receive/explain applications for potential residents, along with updating the waitlist.

Casework Provide hands‑on training, coaching and support to clients, and help create opportunities for practicing skills that will enable clients to achieve their personal goals. Conduct an initial needs assessment of the resident within 10 days of arrival to the residence and schedule the initial room inspection. Establish and refer clients to appropriate medical and mental health services, education/job training programs, legal and advocacy services and other community resources as needed. Ensure the eventual completion of the goals and prepare an appropriate exit plan Work with assigned residents in completing Personal Development Plan (PDP) and following up with Resident(s) at regular intervals to assess, monitor, and adjust PDP as may be required. Participate with residents in scheduled instructional, spiritual, or social activities as required. Research and develop knowledge of issues that relate to residents. Development of resource information as relevant for residents. Maintain confidentiality and keep accurate files and statistical records. Specifics of administrative duties will vary with the different shifts.

Admin/ Community Support Supervise/monitor actions and interactions of Residents during assigned shift. Respond to all Resident inquiries within the framework of Centre Policies & Procedures. Answer telephone calls and refer to the appropriate person(s). Admit visitors to the Centre according to guidelines. Receive Residents’ rent and place funds in the designated lockbox as per written protocol. Maintain contact with the Salvation Army, City and Provincial Government and community agencies to coordinate activities and available resources for the benefit of the Centre and the residents. Participate in scheduled staff and case management meetings as required and provide input and information on assigned client progress. Initial response to emergencies such as fire alarm, or other situations. Respond and assist residents at times of physical/mental/emotional crises. Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Duties require the employee to work in Grace Mansion – an 84-room, four-story Residence located at 596 East Hastings Street in downtown Vancouver. Responsibilities will involve working from a designated workstation, but will also involve movement through the residential areas, and general building. The employee may at times be subject to hazardous or disagreeable conditions in the performance of their duties.

Education and Experience Qualifications

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

Minimum two years of experience of case work with individuals working through addiction and/or mental health issues Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $24.47 to $30.59 with a maximum of $36.71. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
