Job summary

SLR Consulting Sudbury office seeks an Instrumentation Engineer to lead instrumentation and control systems across mining projects. The role includes stamping drawings, schematics, and developing control narratives, loop diagrams, and I/O lists, with a strong emphasis on commissioning and field support.

You will mentor junior staff, collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, and ensure compliance with safety standards and project schedules. Travel may be required for sites and client meetings.

Qualifications

  • 10-15 years of combined consulting/mining industry experience.
  • Experience commissioning instrumentation and industrial control systems.
  • Registered or eligible for Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering leadership for instrumentation and control systems for mining projects.
  • Stamp drawings and schematics, develop control narratives, P&IDs, and I/O lists.
  • Define scope, schedule and budget with project teams and clients.
  • Review deliverables, support commissioning, start-up, and field troubleshooting.
  • Mentor junior staff and ensure adherence to codes, safety standards, and best practices.

We are Making Sustainability Happen.As our new **Instrumentation Engineer**, you will be responsible for stamping drawings and schematics, contributing to backfill plant design, commissioning instrumentation and industrial control systems and providing technical leadership and mentorship to staff within the team. You’ll play a key role on our busy and growing Sudbury team.**Responsibilities:*** Provide E&I engineering technical support, working with teams to deliver solutions* Prepare design deliverables, including datasheets, process control, diagrams, plot plans, control schematics, and engineering work packages, including installation details, control panel design, and termination details* Define the scope of work, budget and schedule along with the team* Conduct detailed reviews and authenticate deliverables* Participate in project meetings between engineering, project management, operations, and clients* Extensive experience leading and delivering instrumentation and controls engineering within mining or heavy industrial sectors* Strong expertise in PLC, DCS, SCADA systems, and process automation platforms* Proven ability to develop control narratives, P&IDs, loop diagrams, and I/O lists* Experience with commissioning, troubleshooting, and operational support in industrial environments* Strong understanding of safety systems, hazardous area classification, and applicable codes and standards* Ability to lead complex projects and mentor junior staff while maintaining high technical excellence**Working @ SLR**With us, there is no doubt you’ll grow your subject-matter expertise and industry knowledge.
