Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job Duties/Qualifications, Skills and Abilities(QSA)

Job Duties

Job Duties

1. Coordinate maintenance and supply of laboratory equipment, supplies and live animal requests.
2. Design, update and construct materials for lecture and/or laboratory based courses.
3. Prepare and deliver lectures and laboratory sessions as assigned. Some classes may be held at off-campus facilities in and around Saskatoon and require travel. Topics of classes include but are not limited to animal and health sciences, diagnostic testing (parasitology, clinical pathology, microbiology), veterinary nursing skills, veterinary dentistry, anesthesia, radiology.
4. Provide oversight of students during their off-site clinical rotations. Includes providing guidance for clinical mentorship, clinical skills training and evaluation. Requires travel in and around Saskatoon to visit students at their placements. May involve occasional weekend assignments.
5. Evaluate students through the use of exams, assignments and observations. To record student progress.
6. Counsel students and prospective students on matters pertaining to the program and careers.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE

Specific Accountabilities

Duties include:
1. The position is responsible for supporting all teaching laboratories. Duties include care and maintenance of program equipment; ordering and maintaining inventory of equipment and supplies; arranging and tracking use of live animals; working with internal and external groups (such as the Saskatoon SPCA ) to coordinate labs.
2. Teaching laboratory-based courses is a large component of this position. Specific labs include, but are not limited to: parasitology, hematology, anatomy, radiology, anesthesia, nursing skills, pharmacy, dentistry.
3. Driving is a requirement of this position.
4. Teaching with live animals.
5. Creating and delivering lectures and labs on a number of animal health and veterinary-related topics including animal diseases, anesthesia, pharmacology, hematology, clinical pathology, radiology, dentistry. Creating and using evaluation tools; supervising students in small animal nursing skills labs.

1. A DVM with general practice licence, or a registered veterinary technologist with a BSc in biology, animal science or health sciences field.
2. Minimum of five years recent/relevant clinical experience, preferably in a small or mixed animal general practice.

5. Effective instructional ability. Formal teaching experience is an asset.
6. Ability to function as a team member in an ever-changing environment
7. Demonstrated competence and recent experience in the use of the internet, e-mail, MS Office Suite software and the ability to learn and adapt to changing technology.
8. Demonstrates valuing diversity.
9. Ability to travel in and around Saskatoon.
