Job description

Duties:

Vancouver Island University's Education Assistant and Community Support Program is now accepting applications for instructors to teach one or more of the following courses:

  • EACS 110 Foundations for Practice
  • EACS 130 Teaching and Learning Strategies
  • EACS 150 Health and Wellness
  • EACS 160 Augmentative Communication and Assistive Technology
  • EACS 170 Challenging Conditions
  • EACS 180 School-based practicum
  • EACS 190 Community-based Practicum

Faculty are responsible for preparing and delivering classes, designing and grading student assignments and tests, and facilitating student integration of theory and practice. They will also participate in program and faculty meetings, liaise with support staff, other staff, and faculty.

Vancouver Island University emphasizes teaching excellence, scholarly activity, and community involvement.

Successful candidates should be responsive to diverse cultural and academic backgrounds and learning styles.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in a human services (social work or educational psychology) or disability field. For EACS 150, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with current registration in good standing with BCCNP, or another allied health discipline (e.g., physiotherapy or occupational therapy), is required.
  • Experience supporting persons with disabilities and health care needs. Proven proficiency in post-secondary teaching, both online and in-person, with the ability to meet diverse student needs. Knowledge of applying theory in practice aligned with course content. Evidence of collaboration and effective teamwork.
  • Proficiency with educational technology and familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., D2L). Knowledge of Indigenous ways of knowing and cultural teachings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant PhD (completed or in progress). Broad understanding of disability issues.
