Job summary

Qualifications

• Experience working with ASL–English Interpreters in various settings.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

As an instructor within the School of Health Sciences & Community Services, your responsibilities would include classroom instruction, supervision and guidance of students, student evaluation, advising of students, maintenance of student records and other professional duties related to instruction. Examples of subject areas are Interpretation and Advanced ASL. The incumbent is also required to participate in department and College committees and assist in student orientation and graduation activities.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

• Bachelor's degree in Deaf Studies, Deaf Education, ASL Linguistics, Deaf Culture Studies, or a closely related field
• Native or native-like fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• ASL Proficiency Interview (ASLPI) rating of Level 4 or higher
• In-depth knowledge of Deaf culture, Deaf history, Deaf community values, and the barriers and challenges experienced by Deaf individuals grounded in authentic lived experienced
• Extensive experience working with ASL‑English Interpreters in a variety of settings
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills
• Demonstrated leadership skills
• Ability to teach on campus and remotely
• Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to work independently as well as in small to large group settings
• Strong organizational and time‑management skills
• Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement

NICE TO HAVE

• Experience developing curriculum and instructing at a post‑secondary level
• Certificate in Teaching for Learning or Adult Education
• Experience developing and instructing distance‑delivered courses including online
• Experience using a Learning Management System (LMS) to deliver blended (synchronous and asynchronous) instruction
• Ability to create assessments that allow students to use AI responsibly and effectively while demonstrating mastery of course content
• Master's degree in Deaf Studies, Deaf Education, ASL Linguistics, Deaf Cultural Studies, or a closely related field
• Experience teaching ASL, Deaf Culture, Deaf Studies, Deaf Education, ASL Linguistics, or related subject areas

• Salary Range for this position: $67,069 - $105,146 per annum
• Generous Paid Vacation: full‑time employees accumulate a minimum of 15‑days vacation per year, increasing to 30 days with service, while full‑time Instructors accumulate 44 days per year. • Instructors are required to complete the Teaching for Learning (TFL) in Applied Education program or have previously completed the Certificate in Adult Education (CAE)
