Job summary

The City of Vernon is seeking an Instructor - Aquatics for part-time work at the Recreation Centre Facility. You will teach swimming classes for children and adults, plan sessions, and maintain records while working with the Aquatics Team.

Position includes an hourly rate of 29.63 CAD, with 16% in lieu of vacation, holidays and benefits, and a minimum 4 hours guaranteed per week. Closes Sept 18, 2026; location Vernon, BC.

Qualifications

• Minimum 16 years of age.
• Current Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor.
• Current CPR Level C.
• Up to 6 months experience as a swim instructor.
• A combination of related education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes and instructs swimming classes at all levels.
• Maintains related class and course records.
• Carries out minor preventative maintenance tasks.
• Assist City in providing emergency services as required.

Instructor - Aquatics

(Part Time)

Hourly Rate: 29.63

Minimum Weekly Hours: 4

4 hours guaranteed weekly.

Hourly pay + 16% in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays and benefits.

Reporting to the Coordinator - Aquatics , this position involves teaching additional swimming lesson sets for children and adults not filled by Lifeguard/Instructors. The incumbents work minimal shifts of limited duration in indoor and/or outdoor swimming pools.

Duties Include

• Plans, organizes and instructs swimming classes at all levels.
• Maintains related class and course records.
• Carries out minor preventative maintenance tasks.
• All persons employed by the City of Vernon will be required to assist the City in providing emergency services. Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties.

Required Education and Experience

• Minimum 16 Years of Age.
• Current Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor.
• Current CPR Level C.
• UP to 6 months experience as a swim instructor
• A combination of related education and experience may be considered.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Capable of working effectively and tactfully with the public.

Preferred Education, and Experience

• Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Service Award (Pool Option).
• Ability to teach one or more specialized courses, (Syncro, Competitive Diving or BOA
