Carte International Inc. in Winnipeg seeks an energetic Manufacturing Training and Development Specialist to design, develop and deliver learning solutions in a unionized manufacturing environment.

You will lead the learning program, align with organizational goals and foster continuous improvement while collaborating with Human Resources and operations. The role focuses on evaluating programs, engineering a learning strategy, and delivering training across departments to improve skill levels

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education (adult education preferred) or related field.
  • 5+ years in an operational role plus 2+ years building, maintaining and executing training systems in manufacturing.
  • Experience in Train the Trainer, Training Within Industry (TWI), ESL instruction and blueprint reading is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of instructional design theory and learning principles; familiar with traditional and modern training methods.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate existing learning programs, recommend changes, and implement changes on approval.
  • Identify learning needs to support strategic and operational plans.
  • Design, develop, implement, and evaluate programs and initiatives with plans and methodology.
  • Maintain standardized, comprehensive training programs.
  • Develop and communicate a learning strategy with an annual plan.
  • Consult with departments to identify, plan, and implement training requirements.
  • Coordinate job shadowing, equipment demos and hands-on training to improve skills.
  • Deliver training and monitor effectiveness across departments.
  • Ensure evaluations (tests, demonstrations) measure learner competence.
  • Facilitate self-paced, in-class and on-the-job training as required.
  • Promote quality, health, safety and environmental excellence; encompass Lean/CI methodologies.
  • Undertake other duties as directed by the reporting manager.

Carte International is looking for an energetic Manufacturing Training and Development Specialist to join and support the organization on a full-time basis. The Industrial Training and Development Coordinator is responsible for the design, development and delivery of learning solutions and programs. As a key member of the Human Resources team, you will provide development opportunities for all employees while fostering continuous learning within a unionized manufacturing environment.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Evaluate existing learning programs, recommend changes, and implement changes upon approval.
  • Identify learning needs to ensure the success of organization’s strategic and operational plans.
  • Research, design, develop, implement, and evaluate programs and initiatives including plans and methodology.
  • Maintain standardized, comprehensive training and development programs.
  • Develop and effectively communicate a learning strategy for the organization and provide an annual learning plan that supports this strategy.
  • Consult with and support all departments to identify, plan, and implement training and development requirements as determined by the performance needs of the organization.
  • Identify and evaluate ESL levels with Carte employees and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Coordinate job shadowing, equipment demos and hands on training to improve knowledge and skill levels.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate training that is engaging, and supports internal learning.
  • Deliver training and monitor effectiveness across all departments.
  • Ensure evaluations (Tests, hands on demonstrations etc.) are appropriate to measure learner competence.
  • Facilitate the delivery of needed training inclusive of self-paced learning, in class and on the job training as required.
  • Provide competency training on general workplace standards, processes and tools.
  • Manage course development and delivery of training in collaboration with employees and external providers.
  • Promote a culture of quality, health and safety and environmental excellence at Carte.
  • Encompass Lean Principles/Practices and Continuous Improvement Methodologies.
  • Undertake any other duties, consistent with skills and experience, as directed by the reporting manager.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL YOU WILL NEED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education (adult education preferred), social sciences or relevant field.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in an operational role plus two (2) years’ experience, building, maintaining and executing training systems within a manufacturing industry focusing on adult learning.
  • Experience in Train the Trainer, Training Within Industry (TWI), ESL instruction and blueprint reading considered an asset.
  • Extensive knowledge of instructional design theory and learning principles and familiarity with traditional and modern training methods, tools and techniques.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, with ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Strong MS Office skills to manage course material (i.e. materials, procedures, manuals, handouts, charts, schematics and online presentations).
  • Previous experience providing training delivery in a unionized environment would be an asset.
  • Prior experience in curriculum development considered an asset.
  • Lean Manufacturing Training is an asset; must be willing to obtain.
