Job summary

The City of Edmonton is seeking a Planner I to lead planning initiatives and amendments to industrial Area Structure Plans in alignment with strategic objectives. You will coordinate with internal teams and external collaborators to review land development applications for policy alignment and provide clear recommendations.

This temporary role emphasizes engagement with landowners and industry, preparation of bylaws and council reports, and collaboration across departments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning or related field.
  • At least 2 years of planning experience in land use policy or land development planning.
  • Asset: Project Management certification or formal training.
  • Strong policy interpretation and link between strategy and municipal tools.
  • Collaborative approach to integrate diverse perspectives.

Responsibilities

  • Support changes to industrial Area Structure Plans under the direction of a Principal Industrial Policy Planner.
  • Propose policy updates to advance corporate growth objectives.
  • Maintain project management tools (charters, Gantt charts, decision logs, risk registers).
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate engagement with landowners, industry representatives and stakeholders.
  • Prepare plan amendment bylaws, council reports, presentations, and plan consolidation documents.
  • Review LDAs for policy alignment and attend pre-application meetings.
  • Formulate clear recommendations to Planning Coordination and Development Services.
  • Collaborate across City departments to understand impacts and trade-offs.

We are seeking a dedicated professional to lead key planning initiatives that directly impact our growing community.This temporary position leads a project to prepare amendments to industrial Area Structure Plans in alignment with the Industrial Investment Action Plan. Working closely with internal teams and external collaborators, you will support the creation or amendment of industrial Area Structure Plans.
