Qualifications

As an HR Business Partner, you'll be a vital partner, delivering strategic HR advice and support to senior leadership and people leaders. You'll lead with a service mindset, fostering collaborative relationships to align HR strategies with business goals.What will you do?Provide strategic consultation and HR advice to clients to align HR strategies with business goalsGather, analyze, interpret and present HR analytics to support leadership in developing solutions and enable decision-makingProvide expert HR consultation and advice on labour relations, applying relevant legislation (Labour Relations Code, Employment Standards Code, Alberta Human Rights Act) and collective agreements, including dispute resolution and grievance managementSupport leaders in performance management, complex issue resolution, and conducting investigations related to workplace conduct and policy breachesCollaborate with Abilities Management Consultants and operational leaders on employee accommodations and absence management programManage grievance disputes to conclusion, including representing the City's interests in the application of dispute resolution techniques to resolve disputes between management and employees/unions; Support Legal Services during arbitration, litigation, and Human Rights ComplaintsSupport the development and stewardship of team effectiveness models and toolsSupport with implementing organizational development programs and initiatives, including project coordination and facilitationSupport corporate HR programs and projects, including research, analysis, and documentationDevelop presentations and reporting for department and branch leadership teamsLead and participate in working groups to support corporate-level projects and initiativesOther related duties as requiredQualifications:Completion of a post-secondary education program (Degree or Diploma) in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, Labour Relations, Business, or a related field5 years of diversified and progressive human resources experience, including experience supporting senior leaders in a complex organization, interpreting and applying multi-union collective bargaining agreements and providing labour relations advice to a diverse range of clients in a unionized environmentExperience in supporting organizational development and change management initiativesExperience in supporting leaders with workforce strategies, HR analytics, and data reportingSkills required for success:Proven ability to represent employer interests in contentious matters, especially in multi-site, multi-union environmentsDemonstrated skill in building and maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholdersExpertise in providing strategic HR advice and managing sensitive issues, with extensive knowledge of relevant labor laws and collective agreementsAbility to assist legal services and client areas to prepare for, and resolve grievances, including appearing as a witness or acting as a labour relations advisor at arbitration hearingsStrong interpersonal, communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to effectively handle complex situationsAbility to consistently and independently travel to all City of Edmonton work locationsAlignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies (https://bit.ly/4brRrXm)Embracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusion (https://bit.ly/3hd2d95)Applicants may be testedConditions of employment & Work environment:Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksiteThis position is eligible for the EDO program (Earned Day Off)Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent); candidates must arrange their own vehicle and business auto insurance to be reimbursed for mileage according to City of Edmonton policyThe City of Edmonton values applicants with a diverse range of skills, experiences and competencies, and encourages you to apply.
