Job summary

City of Edmonton is seeking a Planner I to join the Environmental Review Team. You will evaluate land development proposals for environmental suitability and risk compliance while applying professional risk assessments and municipal policies related to pipelines, railways, and energy infrastructure.

You will negotiate with applicants, coordinate ESAs with internal teams and regulators, and prepare reports and presentations for City Council hearings.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Sciences, or a closely related field.
• Minimum two (2) years of progressively responsible urban planning, environmental, or land development experience.
• RPP designation or eligibility for membership with the Alberta Professional Planners Institute (APPI) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate Land Development Applications (LDAs) for environmental suitability and risk compliance.
• Apply and implement recommendations from Risk Assessment Reports and technical studies.
• Analyze Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and coordinate reviews with internal teams, regulatory bodies, and partners.
• Negotiate with land development applicants and operators to resolve site constraints and policy requirements.
• Maintain and update GIS records and administrative guidelines, including risk and ESA guides.
• Prepare reports, bylaw packages, and presentations for City Council hearings and inquiries.
