Job summary

Keyano College in Fort McMurray is seeking an Indigenous Student Navigator (Term) to oversee the student life cycle for Indigenous learners, from recruitment through retention. The role acts as a college ambassador in Indigenous communities and coordinates programming such as the Relative-in-Residence Program and the Bouchier Indigenous Student Centre.

The position starts ASAP and ends on or before October 18, 2027.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (i.e. Indigenous Studies, Business, Education, Social Work).
• Two years of related experience with Indigenous learners/communities.
• Knowledge of Indigenous communities, customs, culture and history.
• Strong advisory/assessment, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Indigenous ancestry or experience is a nice-to-have.

Keyano's Student Recruitment Department is currently seeking an Indigenous Student Navigator (Term) to join their dynamic team. Reporting to the Manager, Indigenous Relations & Student Recruitment, the Indigenous Student Navigator oversees the student life cycle of Indigenous learners, beginning with recruitment and ensuring support and retention during their time at Keyano College. The incumbent serves as the College's ambassador within Indigenous communities in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and supports prospective and current Indigenous students in achieving their educational goals. The position also oversees Indigenous student programming, including the Relative-in-Residence Program and the Bouchier Indigenous Student Centre, and works collaboratively to support Indigenous student success. Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide outreach and support services to Indigenous students throughout their educational journey at Keyano College by working closely with Faculty and Non-instructional Faculty to ensure the success of Indigenous students.
• Act as a liaison between students and internal and external support services and resources, identifying needs and connecting students with appropriate supports.
• Advocate for Indigenous students and foster a positive and respectful environment for students and staff.
• Develop and implement resources, tools, and initiatives that support Indigenous student success.
• Assist Indigenous students with applications, registration, enrolment, financial aid, funding opportunities, and band funding applications.
• Support and coordinate Indigenous student programming, including the Bouchier Indigenous Student Centre and the Relative-in-Residence Program.
• Build and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations, Elders, Band offices, and community leaders.
• Plan, promote, coordinate, and deliver culturally relevant events, cultural supports, recruitment activities, and student engagement initiatives.
• Represent Keyano College at recruitment events, education and career fairs, high school presentations, information sessions, and community events, including travel as required.
• Provide prospective students with information regarding programs, admissions, registration processes, student awards, financial aid, and student support services.
• Collaborate with the Office of the Registrar, academic departments, Student Services, Marketing and Communications, and external partners to support student success and event delivery.
• Collect and maintain participation data, prepare reports, assist with funding applications and annual activity planning, work within budgeted parameters, and perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualification:

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (i.e. Indigenous Studies, Business, Education, Social Work)
• A minimum of two years of related experience working with Indigenous learners, communities and/or organizations
• Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous communities, customs, culture and history
• Ability to create and maintain relationships with local Indigenous community members
• Strong advisory/assessment skills, excellent communication (verbal and written), presentation and interpersonal skills,
• Familiarity with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point)
• Valid Driver’s License

Nice to Have:

• Indigenous Ancestry (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit), with demonstrable lived experience.
• Previous experience working in a student services- or student recruitment related field.
• Event planning experience.
• Organized and detail oriented.
• Compassionate, empathetic, adaptable, trustworthy.

Compensation and Benefits

• Compensation is $5,795.60 per month (CUPE IS7) with the following health and benefit package.

• This position qualifies for additional payment of the Northern Living Allowance of $1,040.00 per month.
