Job summary

Keyano College’s Library Services is seeking Student Assistants to join their team as on-campus library helpers. You will assist at the Library Services counter, serving all library users, during August 2026–December 2026. Shifts run 8:00 am–7:00 pm, Monday–Saturday, with a minimum 3-hour shift and 9–16 hours weekly.

Note: this is not a remote or hybrid position; you must work on campus in Fort McMurray, AB, and relocate if needed.

Qualifications

  • Must be a current Keyano College student and legally allowed to work on-campus
  • Demonstration of strong research abilities and information evaluation strategies
  • Outstanding interpersonal and intercultural skills
  • Experience with technology and online platforms (OS, OneDrive, Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Canva, etextbook publishers, Foxit, Adobe PDF)
  • Commitment to promoting the Library's Decolonization and Indigenization, plus EDI values
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts (min 3 hours) including mornings, afternoons, evenings Mon–Sat
  • User-centered disposition with empathy, adaptability and problem-solving abilities
  • Collaborative team-player

Responsibilities

  • Assist patrons with basic reference services and referrals
  • Maintain knowledge of databases and online resources for users and statistics
  • Conduct shelf-reading and locate/missing items, reshelve materials
  • Maintain library and computer lab spaces cleanliness
  • Uphold policies, understand college services and events, communicate issues
  • Complete opening/closing procedures if needed
  • Participate in team meetings and represent Library at outreach events

Job description

Keyano College’s Library Services is currently seeking Student Assistants to join their dynamic team. As a student library assistant, you will be working at the Library Services counter, where you will be providing service to all library users. The term for this position is August 2026 – December 2026. Hours are scheduled between 8:00 am to 7:00 pm, Monday to Saturday. Shifts are a minimum of 3 hours in length, with a total of 9-16 hours typically scheduled weekly.

Note: this is not a remote or hybrid work opportunity, you will be required to work on campus and relocate to Fort McMurray, AB.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assisting patrons with basic reference services and providing referrals
  • Maintain knowledge of the library's databases and online resources to assist users and record library statistics.
  • Conducting shelf-reading, searching for lost and missing items, and circulating and reshelving library materials.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the library space and computer lab
  • Uphold library policies and procedures, maintain knowledge of college services and events, and promptly communicate any issues or concerns
  • Complete opening and/or closing procedures if needed.
  • Participate in team meetings and planning sessions and represent the Library at outreach events.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a current Keyano College student and legally allowed to work on-campus
  • Demonstration of strong research abilities, including search and information evaluation strategies
  • Outstanding interpersonal and intercultural skills
  • Experience with variety of technology and online platforms (e.g., computer operating systems, OneDrive, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, Canva, etextbook publisher platforms, and digital tools such as Foxit and Adobe PDF, etc.)
  • A commitment to promoting the Library's Decolonization and Indigenization, as well as Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) values and endeavours
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts (a minimum of 3 hours in length), including mornings, afternoons, and evenings Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturdays.
  • User-Centered Disposition – a demonstrated ability to meet library users at their point of need, with empathy, adaptability, and demonstrated active listening skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Collaborative team-player

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Library of Congress and Dewey Decimal classification systems
  • Strong knowledge of and experience using academic databases and library resources, including the Keyano Library's Discovery Service
  • Strong knowledge and experience using Keyano required technology and platforms (e.g., Self-Service, Keyanomail, Moodle, Respondus, etc.)
  • Minimum one year of post-secondary education completed
  • Previous Library experience (public or academic)
  • Knowledge of Protection of Privacy Act (PoPA) and Access to Information Act (ATIA)
Compensation and Benefits

CUPE Student $17.40 per hour.
