Job summary

The City of Edmonton seeks an Indigenous Peoples Interpreter to bring Edmonton's history to life through storytelling, demonstrations and role-play. You will engage visitors from Indigenous communities and interpret historical periods across the Fort Edmonton Park experience.

Requirements include Grade 12 and skills in public interaction; asset for Cree or Métis languages is welcomed, with emphasis on equity, inclusion and Indigenous perspectives in programming.

Qualifications

• Completion of grade 12 or equivalent.
• Skills or experience working with the general public and children.
• Asset: Ability to speak Cree, Michif or other Indigenous languages; knowledge of Cree syllabics.
• Experience working in a museum, cultural centre, or historic site.
• Strong skills in traditional crafts and skills.
• Knowledge of Cree, Métis or other Indigenous cultures and histories.
• Embracing equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Engage visitors with Indigenous histories and cultures as it relates to Edmonton.
• Interpret a period of Edmonton's history using storytelling, demonstrations, conversations, tours, and costumed role play.
• Lead large-scale interpretive programs and develop new programs.
• Facilitate private activations, tours, and Indigenous Perspective workshops.
• Assist with high-volume special events and maintain artifacts and supplies.
• Collect statistical information and lead programs for pre-registered groups.
• Participate in media engagements, public events and other functions.
