Job summary

Fraser Health is seeking an Indigenous Elders Activity Worker to implement wellness and social activities for Elders, collaborating with a Recreation Therapist to adapt activities. The role includes client intake, documentation and transporting clients to program activities.

You will promote participation, provide demonstrations, and monitor client progress while assisting with basic food preparation and equipment setup as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • Education: Grade 12 and completion of an Activity Assistant Program or Care Attendant Certificate, or equivalent.
  • Certificates in First Aid, CPR and Food Safe; Elders experience preferred.
  • Valid Class IV BC Drivers Licence and access to a vehicle for work.

Responsibilities

  • Implements and participates in recreational and/or social activities for clients.
  • Adapts activities in collaboration with the Recreation Therapist to meet client needs.
  • Contributes to activity development with multidisciplinary input.
  • Promotes client participation, demonstrates activities and provides feedback.
  • Observes clients and reports unsafe conditions or changes in health, behavior or cognition.
  • Sets up equipment, cleans and sterilizes as required.
  • Accompanies clients on outings related to the Indigenous Elders Activity Program.
  • Completes records such as statistics, progress reports and client profiles.
  • Provides basic information to support health and well-being.
  • Performs limited food preparation (heating, tea/coffee, toast).
  • Maintains inventory of equipment and materials.
  • Assists with client intake and scheduling/appointment confirmation.
  • Transports clients to activities using a vehicle (10 seats or less).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

The salary range for this position is CAD $29.76 - $31.64 / hour

Job Summary

Primary site: Chilliwack Health Protection but requires travel to Agassiz Area and Fraser Canyon.

Detailed Overview

The Indigenous Elders Activity Worker provides services to the Indigenous Elders Activity Program by implementing and participating in wellness and/or social activities. Provides demonstrations, promotes client participation in activities and provides feedback. In collaboration with the Recreation Therapist, adapts and modifies established activities to meet the specific needs of clients. Assists with client intake including inputting client information into relevant databases.

Responsibilities
  1. Implements and participates in recreational and/or social activities designed to meet the needs of clients.
  2. In collaboration with the Recreation Therapist, adapts and modifies established activities to meet the specific needs of clients.
  3. Participates in the development of activities by providing input to the multidisciplinary team.
  4. Promotes client participation in activities, provides demonstrations as required and provides feedback regarding the performance and progress of clients.
  5. Observes clients and reports unsafe conditions and/or any behavioural, physical, health and/or cognitive changes.
  6. Sets up furnishings, equipment and supplies for activities. Cleans and sterilizes in accordance with established procedures.
  7. Accompanies clients on scheduled outings related to the Indigenous Elders Activity Program.
  8. Completes and maintains related records and documentation such as statistics, progress reports, activity preparation reports, observation reports and client activity profiles.
  9. Provides basic information to clients to support their health and well-being.
  10. Performs limited food preparation such as heating prepared food, making tea, coffee, toast, etc.
  11. Maintains an inventory of equipment, tools, and materials related to activities.
  12. Assists with client intake by performing duties such as obtaining client information and completing documentation required. Supports scheduling and confirmation of clients’ appointments.
  13. Transports passengers to program activities by operating a motor vehicle with a seating capacity of 10 or less (including driver).
  14. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education, Training, and Experience: Grade 12, completion of a recognized Activity Assistant Program or Care Attendant Certificate; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Certificates in First Aid, CPR and Food Safe. Experience working with Elders and in Indigenous community health.

Valid Class IV BC Drivers License and personal vehicle for work related purposes.
