Job summary

Toronto Metropolitan University invites applications for a career-stream Professional Counsellor based in downtown Toronto. The successful candidate will provide counselling and psychotherapy to TMU students, including individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, case management, and referrals to campus and Indigenous-specific supports within GMISS and OVPS.

Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology or Social Work with at least five years of postgraduate experience;

Qualifications

• Evidence of Indigenous lived experience and knowledge of Indigenous health and wellness approaches.
• Knowledge of Indigenous healing practices and community supports, including Elders and Traditional Healers.
• Ability to integrate Indigenous approaches with Western therapeutic modalities.
• Strong generalist counselling skills for a diverse student population.
• Training in evidence-informed modalities (e.g., trauma-informed approaches).
• Effective clinical judgment for risk assessment and crisis intervention.
• Strong written and verbal communication and documentation skills.
• Experience in program development/coordination and community initiatives.
• Ability to work independently and as part of multiple teams within Student Wellbeing.
• Ability to prioritize and adapt to changing priorities in a university setting.
• Experience in a post-secondary environment.
• Regulatory college membership in Ontario.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and group counselling and crisis intervention for TMU students.
• Conduct case management and refer to campus, community, and Indigenous-specific supports.
• Collaborate with GMISS and other units to deliver wellbeing programs.
• Participate in prevention work and community relationship building.
• Contribute to trauma-informed care through evidence-based modalities.
