Job summary

Family Service Toronto is seeking a qualified clinician to provide single-session counselling for 18+ individuals, families, and couples in Toronto. The Walk-In Counselling Service operates in a collaborative model with co-counselling onboarding.

Ideal candidates hold a Master’s level clinical training and CRPO/OCSWSSW registration, with strong English communication and a trauma-informed, equity-focused practice. Bilingual abilities are valued.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a recognized Master’s level clinical training program.
  • Registration with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
  • Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) or other authorized college.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to provide counselling in a second language is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical counselling using a single-session model.
  • Assess client needs and identify therapeutic goals within a 50-minute session.
  • Collaborate with Family Service Toronto staff, students and volunteers.
  • Complete documentation on the same day of the session.
  • Communicate accurate information about the Walk-In Counselling service to clients.

The Opportunity!

To provide single-session counselling services to individuals, families, and couples who are 18+ and who live or work in Toronto through the Walk-In Counselling Service. The Walk-In is a collaborative model and team members are onboarded through co-counselling.

Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical counselling using a single-session model
  • Assess client needs, collaboratively identify therapeutic goals, apply appropriate therapeutic interventions and plan next steps within a 50-minute counselling session
  • Work collaboratively with the Family Service Toronto’s staff, students, and volunteers
  • Same-day completion of all documentation required
  • Communicate accurate information about the Walk-In Counselling service to clients
Skills/Experience
  • Successful completion of a recognized Master’s level clinical training program. Foreign credentials are valued.
  • Registration with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). Registrants of other colleges that are authorized to provide the controlled act of psychotherapy will also be considered
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to provide counselling in a second language is a strong asset
  • Strong clinical knowledge and skills in a recognized psychotherapeutic modality including (but not limited to) Narrative, Solution-focused, Acceptance and Commitment (ACT), Mindfulness, Gestalt, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behaviour (CBT), and Dialectical Behaviour (DBT) therapies
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention, suicide, risk assessments, and safety planning
  • Current experience working with individuals and/or families and/or couples in a clinical counselling capacity
  • Ability to work with marginalized persons from a client-centred, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and strengths-based approach
  • Ability to maintain boundaries with clients
  • Good knowledge of community resources in the City of Toronto
  • Ability to independently complete clinical case notes by end of their shift
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion
