Job summary

The Government of Nova Scotia invites applications for an Income Assistance (IA) Specialist within the Opportunities and Social Development department. You will lead the ESIA program’s policy interpretation, standards, and delivery across the province, focusing on vulnerable Nova Scotians and service coordination with partners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in social science with several years of supervision or program leadership.
  • Familiarity with the ESIA program and its regulations and standards.
  • Strong collaboration with community service providers and other government departments; organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the ESIA program is delivered effectively province-wide.
  • Support management, supervisors, staff, and community partners on complex ESIA cases and interpretation of legislation and policies.
  • Support development of program improvements and policy changes to meet client needs.
  • Monitor program performance and provide expert advice and data to senior management.
  • Foster collaboration between ESIA and other departmental programs and community providers.
  • Coordinate integration of services among service providers in the region.
  • Assist with the development and delivery of program-driven training modules.
  • Prepare briefing notes, ministerial inquiries, and FOIP requests as needed.
