Job summary

The Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board is seeking a Temporary Educational Assistant for Sacred Heart School in Wingham, Ontario. This 35-hour-per-week role runs Sep 3, 2026 to Jun 30, 2027, reporting to the Principal and collaborating with the SERT and classroom teacher to support students’ academic, behavioural, safety, medical and physical needs in an inclusive setting.

Qualifications

• A two-year college diploma in Educational Support, Child Youth Worker, Developmental Service Worker, or Social Service Worker.
• Experience in a school, educational setting or childcare.
• NCVI training.
• Experience working with children with a range of exceptionalities.
• Ability to solve day-to-day issues and refer complex matters to the teacher/SERT; timely.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to address inquiries from various individuals including sensitive issues.
• Confidentiality and discretion.
• Computer skills including Google Workspace.
• Regular attendance.

Responsibilities

• Provide educational support to promote a safe, inclusive learning environment.
• Support and implement strategies to promote positive school climates.
• Assist with inclusion of students in all classroom and school activities.
• Assist students with academic, behaviour, safety, medical and physical needs.
• Collaborate on IEP/behaviour/safety plans under direction of teacher/principal.
• Promote independence with social stories, materials, visuals and schedules.
• Assist students with essential social and job-related skills.
• Assist with personal care needs in consultation with school team and family.
• Assist with lifting, positioning, and transferring using appropriate equipment.
• Support use of assistive technologies and communication aids.
• Monitor and communicate data on student progress with the team.
• Participate in projects contributing to a faith-based educational experience.
• Model positive and pro-social behavior with students, teams, and families.
• Adhere to professional requirements in all aspects of work.
