Job summary

YMCA BC is seeking a compassionate Activity Leader Substitute to support our inclusive before and after school program for children aged 5–12. The role is casual/on-call with shifts that vary, and you will design and participate in activities, provide individualized support, and help children navigate conflicts while modelling positive behaviours.

You will contribute to care plans, maintain safe spaces, and ensure staff-to-child ratios meet regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 19 years of age.
• Experience working with children ages 5–12.
• Ability to plan and lead inclusive indoor/outdoor activities.
• Strong communication, discretion and confidentiality.
• Familiarity with YMCA standards and health & safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Support development and delivery of high-quality programs for ages 5–12.
• Lead indoor and outdoor activities promoting learning and inclusion.
• Provide supervision and mentorship to new staff and volunteers.
• Maintain positive relationships with children, families and partners.
• Ensure safe, welcoming environment with strong staff-to-child ratios.
• Prepare snacks and maintain clean, organized spaces.

Skills

Experience with children 5-12

First Aid & CPR certified

Education

20 hours training in Child Development / Guidance / Nutrition
