Job summary

Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority (APSEA) in Saint John, NB, invites applications for an Educational Deaf Interpreter (EDI) to provide ASL linguistic modelling and support to Deaf students in various educational settings.

You will work with teachers and ASL specialists, promoting inclusive learning and the transition from EDI to Educational Interpreter while upholding CASLI standards.

Qualifications

• Lived experience as Deaf/HOH individual.
• Native fluency in ASL.
• Experience working with children and youth.
• Ability to obtain ASLPI rating (SLIC).
• Functional literacy in English; able to work independently and within a team.

Responsibilities

• Provides ASL instruction in classroom and social settings for Deaf students.
• Supports learning about differences between home and classroom cultures.
• Collaborates with the classroom teacher, Supervisor of Educational Interpreting Services, Education Support Teacher -DHH, and ASL Specialists.
• Assists with transition from EDI to Educational Interpreter within the educational team.
