Job summary

Saint Mary’s University in Halifax is seeking an ASL-English Staff Interpreter (Science) to join the Interpreting Services team. You will interpret complex STEM material for lectures, defenses, and meetings while collaborating with faculty and students.

Requirements include a recognized sign language interpreter training credential and CASLI/NIC certification, plus at least five years of ASL/English interpreting experience. Travel may be required; attractive benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized sign language interpreter training program.
• COI or NIC certification, or active certification process.
• Active CASLI membership or start of process.
• Minimum five years' English–ASL interpreting experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide ASL–English interpretation for Faculty, staff, students, and meetings.
• Collaborate with Interpreting Services Manager on approach and policy.
• Prepare materials and support for interpretation assignments.
• Track interpretation service provisions and assist with equipment.
• Develop special projects for scientific interpreting as needed.
