Job summary

Nechako Lakes School District seeks an ASL Interpreter to support communication between deaf, hard of hearing and hearing learners and staff at Francois Lake Elementary. The role offers six hours per day, five days per week under a continuing position starting September 10, 2026, or as soon as possible.

The successful candidate will collaborate with a District Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and a Classroom Teacher to deliver regular or alternate programs.

Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized Sign Language Interpretation Diploma Program plus one year related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Obtain and maintain membership to the Westcoast Association of Visual Language Interpreters (WAVLI).
• Preference for candidates with at least one year of experience working with people who are deaf or hard of hearing (Practicums and formal learning will be taken into account).
• Preference for candidates who have completed a 1 Year Education Assistant Certificate.
• WHMIS 2015 Certificate and familiarity with WorkSafeBC safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assists and supports the teacher and other professionals in the delivery of regular or alternate programs for communication between deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing learners/staff.
• Works collaboratively with a District Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and Classroom Teacher to perform Duties and Responsibilities.
