Job summary

Finlink Group seeks a Private Investment Research Manager to lead research and due diligence for private equity, venture capital, private debt, real assets and co-investments across Canada and internationally. You’ll turn data into actionable investment insights informing portfolio construction and client recommendations.

Ideal candidates bring 5–7 years in private investment due diligence, strong analytical skills, and experience with ESG and impact investing.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years of relevant experience in private investment due diligence, manager research and/or portfolio monitoring.
• Experience evaluating private investment opportunities, with direct private investment experience considered a strong asset.
• Understanding end-to-end due diligence in investment and fund management, including legal considerations.
• Ability to conduct financial, business, investment, attribution, modelling and impact analysis.
• Experience assessing investment viability, business models, return profiles, stress scenarios, market trends and risk.
• Relevant university degree or equivalent professional experience.
• CFA or CAIA credentials are an asset.
• Strong project management, organizational and prioritization skills.
• Experience in sustainable/ESG or impact investing preferred.
• French language is an asset and strongly preferred.
• Interest in applying AI tools to investment research is advantageous.
• Eligibility to work in Canada without employment restrictions.

Responsibilities

• Lead private fund manager due diligence and research for Canada and international markets.
• Assess managers and opportunities across financial, operational, strategic and impact lenses.
• Review data rooms, financial statements, fund reports and industry publications.
• Develop and maintain informed views and recommendations on investments and watchlist assets.
• Evaluate fund strategies, business models, return expectations and risk factors.
• Establish and monitor investment KPIs including financial and impact measures.
• Oversee regular financial and impact performance reviews for funds.
• Build and maintain a pipeline of potential fund managers and opportunities.
• Develop relationships with fund managers and product providers.
• Improve research and due diligence practices.
• Partner with portfolio managers to translate research into recommendations.
• Contribute to client engagements and manage deliverables and budgets.
• Develop thought leadership on macro trends, asset allocation and portfolio strategy.
• Participate in business development, presentations and marketing activities.
• Collaborate with leadership on strategic projects and initiatives.
• Communicate complex concepts clearly to professionals and non-specialists.
