The University of Manitoba is looking for an IBEP Recruiter & Advisor. This position focuses on recruiting and retaining Indigenous students within the Asper School of Business through membership in the Indigenous Business Education Partners (IBEP) program. The incumbent will advise a caseload of students throughout their academic journey, operating with minimal supervision after a familiarization period. They will be responsible for ensuring that established policies are followed, seeking assistance when needed for policy interpretation, and providing effective referrals to various departments and organizations within or outside the University of Manitoba. The role is designed to create a supportive environment that helps students fully benefit from their university experience and maximize their success in the Business School.

The primary goal of the position is to support the Director and Program Advisor & Administrator in improving retention and graduation rates for Indigenous students at the I.H. Asper School of Business. The incumbent will work alongside other IBEP staff to foster a strong, lasting community that extends beyond the students' time on campus. The position underscores the importance of supporting Indigenous students and is integral to advancing their achievement and success, as well as creating opportunities for growth within the broader university community.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required; Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) preferred, majors in marketing, communications, education, or leadership would be an asset.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be willing and able to travel locally and nationally on occasion.
  • A minimum of two years of directly related experience is required.
  • Experience supporting post‑secondary students, including student advising, policy interpretation, and coaching is required.
  • Working with Indigenous organizations and communities (either on or off‑campus) required.
  • Experience working in a recruitment position is required, with preference towards education‑relations experience.
  • Public speaking experience is required.
  • Experience working with or speaking to high school students and their parents is required.
  • Previous experience working with University of Manitoba systems (AURORA, FAST, CONCUR, EPIC, P‑Card, BANNER) preferred.
  • A thorough understanding of the development approach to academic advising preferred.
  • Experience with student financial aid and/or community funding assistance preferred.
  • A thorough knowledge of student services offered at the University of Manitoba preferred, in particular those of the Asper School of Business.
  • Event planning experience would be considered an asset.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Problem solving and conflict resolution skills preferred.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to take initiative to solve problems and learn new tasks. Attention to detail is required.
  • Data analysis and data presentation skills through visualization is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to form and maintain strong working relationships with a range of stakeholders at various levels, such as academic and administrative colleagues, students, alumni, Elders, and community partners is required.
  • Ability to deal with high demand and/or stressful situations is required.
  • Ability to plan strategically is required.
  • Ability to establish rapport with diverse educational, age, racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds to facilitate a positive advising relationship is required.
  • Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality with respect to all communications and records to the extent protected under the law and statements of ethical practice.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team is required.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
