Job summary

A technology service provider in Thunder Bay is looking for an I.T Field Service Technician on a 2-year contract, with the possibility of extension. Candidates should have 2-4 years of experience in a similar role and strong knowledge of Windows 7 and Windows 10. Responsibilities include maintaining and repairing computer systems and supporting user accounts. Compensation is between $30-35 per hour, plus mileage and travel time incentives.

Job description

We are currently hiring for a contract I.T Field Service Technician position in Thunder Bay, ON. The ideal candidate should have 2–4 years of experience in a similar role and strong knowledge of Windows 7. Experience in Desktop Support, Laptops, Servers, Printers, Hardware Support, and iMac is required; POS experience is a plus.

Duration

2 years (possibility of an extension).

I.T. Field Service Technician Responsibilities

• Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs computer systems, hardware, and computer peripherals.
• Documents, maintains, upgrades, or replaces hardware and software systems.
• Supports user account information including rights, security, and system groups.
• Trains employees, identifies and repairs product failures, orders and replaces parts as needed.
• Determines and recommends which products or services best fit customers' needs.

Requirements

• Available to work extended hours including weekends and evenings for the duration of the contract.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• High school diploma and college or university enrollment or degree.
• 2+ years experience as a break/fix Field IT technician and/or lead break/fix Field IT technician.
• Excellent technical knowledge of hardware and Windows 7 and Windows 10 operating systems.
• Working technical knowledge of current protocols, operating systems, and standards.
• Ability to read and understand technical manuals, procedural documentation, and OEM guides.
• Ability to develop and interpret technical documentation for training and end‑user procedures.
• Familiarity with personal computers, printers, and wireless connectivity devices.
• Possession and use of an owned car for travel between locations.
• Android 4.4+ or Apple iOS 9+ or Windows Phone 8+ with a data package to receive emails and instant messaging.
• Ability to lift a 20‑lb box from the floor to a tabletop surface.

Nice to Have

• College diploma or university degree in computer science and/or information technologies or 7–10 years equivalent work experience.
• CompTIA A+ certifications.
• Cisco or Microsoft certifications.

Compensation

$30‑35 per hour.

Incentives

• Mileage – Both ways at $0.38/km minus the first 20 km.
• Travel time – Last site location back to HUB.
