Job summary

Sovereign Insurance, based in Canada, is seeking a Senior Underwriting Specialist to lead Commercial Automobile underwriting and provide technical guidance from the Underwriting department. This role focuses on portfolio profitability, standards, and audit processes, with emphasis on cross-jurisdiction expertise and team leadership.

You will mentor colleagues, drive policy wordings, and support underwriting tools while collaborating across diverse teams.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in commercial automobile underwriting, with at least 5 at the senior or specialist level.
• Strong analytical skills and an understanding of portfolio analysis metrics.
• Experience in other lines of business is an asset.
• Experience training, coaching, and mentoring individuals of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
• Proven project and change management skills with the ability to deliver on deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.
• Experience underwriting commercial automobile across multiple jurisdictions is an asset
• Experience with automobile rate filings is an asset, but not a requirement
• This position primarily works with majority non-francophone groups, and teams located outside of Québec, and requires proficiency in English.

Responsibilities

• Leading or participating in the analysis of the Commercial Automobile underwriting portfolio to drive and maintain profitability.
• Supporting the design, development, implementation and maintenance of policy wordings, guidelines, authorities, and underwriting resource tools.
• Participating in the development, implementation and maintenance of corporate underwriting standards, appetite, and philosophy.
• Leading or participating in the underwriting audit process including follow up support to ensure action plans to address issues identified in the audit occur in a timely manner.
• Maintaining forms, files, records as well as preparing reports, information and presentations as required.
