Job summary

CHEO hosts NSO and seeks a full-time Clinical Scientist in the molecular laboratory for newborn screening. The role is hybrid, with ~40% from home and 60% on-site at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario.

Compensation ranges from CAD 173,491 to CAD 202,117 per year, commensurate with academic rank. The incumbent interprets molecular data, collaborates with leadership, evaluates variants, drafts reports, and leads assay development, QA, and education activities.

Qualifications

• PhD or MD with CCMG certification eligibility in Molecular Genetics.
• Experience in pediatric genetic screening and diagnosis.
• Strong data analytics and programming skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication.
• Demonstrated leadership.
• Criminal Record Check (Level 1) required.
• Bilingualism (French/English) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and report data from the molecular laboratory of NSO.
• Collaborate with laboratory leadership to foster a productive environment.
• Evaluate variants identified in diagnostic testing or newborn screening.
• Draft reports in collaboration with clinical content specialists.
• Identify workflow improvements in molecular diagnostics and screening.
• Oversee development and validation of molecular assays.
• Participate in quality assurance and proficiency activities.
• Develop a scholarly program related to screening and diagnostics.
• Train fellows, residents, and medical students in genetics and pediatrics.
• Assist in operating and capital budgets.
• Review newborn screens for assay performance and follow-up practices.
• Be physically present on-site to discharge responsibilities.
• Engage with accrediting and regulatory agencies and healthcare partners.
