Job summary

Northern Light Theatre is seeking a Managing Director to sustain the organization’s business operations, including day-to-day administration, budgeting, payroll, and regulatory reporting. The MD will collaborate with the Artistic Director and Board on development planning, projects and fundraising, ensuring sound governance and financial stability.

This full-time, hybrid role (35 hours per week) in Edmonton offers a CAD 40,000–45,000 salary plus benefits.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a relevant field.
• Understanding and awareness of Edmonton’s arts and culture sector.
• Strong organizational skills with the flexibility to be agile and manage multiple priorities.
• Comfortable with technology and strong hands on working experience with Microsoft Office Applications (Windows and Mac OS), data base systems and QuickBooks.
• Demonstrated experience and success working with community partners, fund development, and theatre patrons.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Collaborative and team building work style.

Responsibilities

• Manages daily operations and functions of the organization.
• Maintains records, databases, memberships and subscriptions.
• Manages contracts, cheques, production registrations with professional associations.
• Oversees payroll in tandem with a contract bookkeeper.
• CRA/WCB reporting.
• Develops, with the Artistic Director, annual operating and capital budgets for Board approval.
• Manages daily company finances including accounts receivable/payable, payroll, remittance of deductions, banking and cash flow.
• Prepares operations reports for the Board of Directors.
• Ensures compliance with CRA Registered Charities and AGLC guidelines.
• Collaborates with external accounting firm for year-end statements.
• Assists in creation/implementation of NLT projects.
• Maintains donor engagement and fundraising planning with the Board.
• Coordinates fundraising plans and Bingo events.
• Researches revenue-generating initiatives with the Board.
