Job summary

Destination BC in Vancouver, BC is seeking a Financial Analyst to provide expert financial analysis, reporting, forecasting and advisory support within the Corporate Services program area. Reporting to the Controller, you will help strengthen financial controls and partner with business units to improve processes and reporting.

The role requires a Master’s or Bachelor’s in finance/adm or equivalent with relevant experience.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in financial management or business administration and six months of relevant experience; OR
• Bachelor’s Degree in financial management or business administration and one year of relevant experience; OR
• Diploma in financial management or business administration and two years of relevant experience; OR
• Certificate or coursework in financial management or business administration and three years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Develops and maintains accounting, expenditure, commitment control and records management processes and systems, and ensures compliance with corporate policies and procedures.
• Provides financial, accounting, budgeting, and forecasting advice to business units and divisions to support planning and decision making.
• Identifies opportunities to improve financial policies, procedures, systems, and practices; recommends and implements enhancements that strengthen financial management, reporting, and operational efficiency.
• Collaborates with business units to maintain the Charts of Accounts and ensure alignment with organizational programs, activities and responsibilities.
• Develops and manages the annual financial calendar to support key deadlines and provides guidance to staff on financial processes, policies, procedures and budget requirements.
• Develops and manages financial reports that monitor budgets, commitments and expenditures; ensures accuracy and completeness; and investigates and resolves variances.
• Oversees the complete, accurate and timely preparation of financial reports, including the review of asset, liability, revenue, and expenditure accounts, and the development of year-end expenditure forecasts.
• Advises managers on budget planning and coordination and supports the monitoring and reporting of revenue and expenditure forecasting. Reviews and analyzes budget and forecast submissions for management consideration.
• Provides financial management guidance, direction, and training to staff to support a strong understanding of financial systems, budgeting procedures, policies and procedures across the organization.
• Researches accounting standards and SAP Business ByDesign functionality to resolve accounting system issues, and provides recommendations on new practices, system features, upgrades, and enhancements.
• Supports the Controller in strengthening financial controls, processes, and procedures and ensures compliance with corporate policies and standards.
• Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned by the Controller and the CFO
• Other duties as required.
