Job summary

The City of Mississauga invites motivated professionals to join our Building Division as a Mechanical Inspector-HVAC. This permanent role oversees inspections to ensure HVAC installations meet safety standards, with responsibilities spanning records, inquiries, and coordination across City departments.

Qualified candidates have 5+ years in HVAC design/construction, strong reading of drawings/specs, and proficient computer skills.

Qualifications

  • HVAC tradesperson or designer with a minimum of 5 years directly related work experience in HVAC design and/or construction; plumbing design/construction experience is a plus
  • Must have proficient computer skills and be proficient in reading and interpreting drawings, specifications, and other technical documents
  • Must have strong communication and customer service skills, and the ability to work in a team environment

Responsibilities

  • Carry out inspections on buildings/structures to ensure HVAC systems comply with Building Code Act and Ontario Building Code
  • Prepare and maintain accurate inspection records in electronic and manual formats
  • Respond to inquiries from designers, contractors, and the public
  • Prepare information for files/reports related to Inspection Services
  • Investigate HVAC complaints and testify in court when required
  • Present a professional image in interactions with public and colleagues
  • Work independently and manage a geographic area
  • Coordinate with Building Division staff and external agencies
