Job summary

City of Mississauga invites motivated professionals to join our Building Division as Mechanical Inspector-Plumbing to ensure plumbing installations meet the Building Code Act and Ontario Building Code, and to prepare inspection records. The role requires licensed plumber or designer with 5+ years relevant experience; HVAC knowledge is a plus.

Valid driver’s license and strong communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Licensed plumber with 5+ years in plumbing design or construction.
• Knowledge of Building Code Act and Ontario Building Code.
• Ability to read drawings and interpret technical documents.

Responsibilities

• Carry out inspections on buildings to ensure plumbing systems comply with codes.
• Prepare and maintain accurate inspection records.
• Respond to inquiries from designers, contractors and the public.
• Prepare information for files and reports related to Inspection Services.
• Investigate plumbing complaints and participate in related proceedings.
• Present a professional and knowledgeable image in all interactions.
• Work independently within a defined geographic area.
• Coordinate with Building Division staff and external agencies.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Carry out inspections on all types of buildings and structures to ensure that construction/installation of Plumbing systems comply with the Building Code Act, Ontario Building Code, and any other applicable law
• Prepare and maintain accurate inspection records in both electronic and manual formats
• Respond to related enquiries received from various customers, including designers, contractors, and the general public
• Prepare information for files and reports in respect to matters relative to the Inspection Services Section
• Investigate Plumbing related complaints, take legal action and appear as a witness in court when required
• Consistently present a professional, positive, knowledgeable, and conscientious image in all interactions with the public, internal and external customers, and colleagues.
• Able to work independently and manage a geographical area
• Work in coordination with other Building Division staff, other City departments, and external agencies
• Perform other related duties as may be assigned

Skills and Qualifications

• Licensed Plumber or designer with a minimum of 5 years directly related work experience in Plumbing design and/or construction; work experience in HVAC design and/or construction is an asset
• Demonstrated knowledge of the requirements of the Building Code Act, Ontario Building Code, and any other applicable law as they apply to Plumbing systems; knowledge of the requirements that apply to HVAC systems is an asset
• Qualified as referenced in Division C Section 3.1.4. of the Ontario Building Code
• Qualify and maintain qualifications as referenced in Division C Section 3.1.4. of the Ontario Building Code, and attend appropriate courses/seminars to keep knowledge current
• Must have proficient computer skills and be proficient in the reading and interpretation of drawings, specifications, and other technical documents.
• Must have strong communication and customer service skills, and the ability to work in a team environment
• Valid driver’s license and use of a vehicle is essential

Hourly Rate/Salary: $80,567- $114,946

This is a Non-Union position-Salary will be determined based on relevant experience and qualifications
