Job summary

RCMT Energy Services in Mississauga, Ontario seeks a mid-level Protection and Control Designer with HV substation expertise. You will prepare protection and control design packages, develop relay and panel layouts, and support field verification and commissioning across projects.

The role requires 3–7 years of HV protection experience, knowledge of IEC 61850/DNP3/SCADA, and proficiency with AutoCAD or MicroStation. Travel to client sites may be necessary.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent.
• EIT status or CET certification is an asset.
• 3–7 years in protection and control design for HV substations.
• Knowledge of HV protection schemes (line, transformer, bus, feeder) and interlocking.Read protection schematics and vendor drawings.
• Familiarity with IEC 61850, DNP3, SCADA, RTU communications.
• Proficient with AutoCAD / MicroStation; AutoCAD Electrical is a plus.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office; good communication skills.
• Willingness to travel to client sites; eligible to work in Canada.

Responsibilities

• Prepare protection and control design deliverables for HV substations (diagrams, wiring, interconnection diagrams).
• Develop relay and control panel layouts and cable schedules.
• Prepare bills of material and assist with relay/IED selections.
• Support with relay settings, protection coordination, and design calculations.
• Prepare SCADA, communications, and network design documentation.
• Conduct field verification and update as-built drawings with red-lines.
• Coordinate with engineers and stakeholders to meet scope and schedule.
• Perform self-checks and peer checks for quality assurance.
• Support construction and commissioning activities as required.
