Job summary

Stantec seeks a Protection & Control Electrical Technician in Montreal to design and integrate protection, control, automation, and monitoring systems for medium- and high‑voltage substations. You will work with engineers, equipment manufacturers, and utility clients to deliver high‑quality technical solutions.

Your day‑to‑day includes developing protection relays, wiring schemes, I/O tables, and control logic while ensuring interfaces with SCADA, HMI, and substation networks meet industry

Qualifications

• College diploma in electrical engineering technology or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in protection and control design for electrical utility, industrial, or consulting projects.
• Strong knowledge of high- and medium-voltage substations and protection systems.
• Experience with modern digital protection relays and IEDs.
• Familiarity with IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, and Ethernet-based systems.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed electrical drawings (single-line diagrams, schematics, protection diagrams).
• Develop wiring and termination drawings for protection relays, control panels, RTUs, PLCs, SCADA, and related equipment.
• Design and document relay protection schemes for substations (line, transformer, bus, feeder protection).
• Create relay I/O allocation tables and control logic diagrams for automation systems.
• Develop cable and conduit schedules, BOMs, and equipment specifications.
• Assist in configuring protection relays and coordinating with vendors.
• Support automation architectures (SCADA, HMI, IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus).
• Review vendor drawings and coordinate interfaces between protection systems and equipment.
