Canada Cartage in Cornwall, Ontario seeks a bilingual Human Resources Generalist to support employee relations, training, performance management and HR policy compliance across a 24/7 operation. The role reports to the HR Business Partner and covers recruitment for hourly and some salary roles, onboarding, and program coordination.

Ideal candidates bring 3–5 years of HR experience, a Bachelor’s in HR (CHRP a plus), and fluent bilingual skills in French and English.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of progressive HR experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or certificate in HR; CHRP is an asset.
  • Bilingual French and English, both verbal and written, mandatory.
  • Ability to work with senior leadership and handle confidential information.

Responsibilities

  • Provide practical advice to Team Leaders and Operations Managers on employee relations and performance management.
  • Map and document HR processes, drive continuous improvement, and ensure policy compliance.
  • Coordinate training programs, onboarding, recruitment, and documentation of HR activities.
  • Investigate incidents, support employee engagement, and assist with special HR projects.

Human Resources Generalist (Bilingual)
Position Summary

Working within a Commercelink, a 24/7 operation and division of Canada Cartage, this role reports to the HR Business Partner, this role will be responsible for a broad range of HR tasks relating to the employee’s employment cycle including but not limited to training, performance management, employee relations, compliance with HR policies and procedures, investigations and administrative responsibilities. This role will support the coordination of HR programs, employment changes and organizational initiatives. This role also supports the documentation and maintenance of processes utilized across the team.

Location: Cornwall, Ontario
Schedule: Mon-Fri, 40 hours
NOTE: some minimal travel across Atlantic Canada and Quebec may be required

What you will do
  • Provides practical advice and assistance to the Team Leaders and Operations Managers in the areas of employee relations, performance management, progressive discipline and documentation, training and development, claims management, recruitment and selection, consistent and fair policy application, and Federal legislation awareness (CLC).
  • Mapping and documentation of processes & best practices for employee programs. Streamline existing processes for continuous improvement. Identify process gaps, make recommendations and work with key stakeholders to execute process efficiencies.
  • Provides training and support through the identification, development and delivery of training and education programs (new hire orientation, cultural, operational, and leadership). Assists, coordinates and tracks training activities.
  • Promotes positive, inclusive work environment through coaching and counseling employees, responding to general inquiries, and resolving issues in a timely manner and in accordance with legislation and company policies and procedures (i.e. open door, progressive discipline, investigation techniques).
  • Assist in the development and delivery of special projects and HR training programs related to leadership development and HR initiatives as needed.
  • Support the HRBP with investigating and reporting incidents including; misconduct, accidents, injuries, complaints, near misses, infractions, and other violations of company policies and procedures.
  • Supports the HRBP in championing Employee Engagement by ensuring Grass Roots meetings are scheduled, executed and partnering with Management to address issues where required. Support Managers in coordinating the annual Employee Engagement survey.
  • Provides support for the recruitment (postings, interviews) and on-boarding process for all hourly and some salary roles.
What You’ll Bring
  • 3-5 years of relevant progressive experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree/Certificate in Human Resources, Industrial Relation or a related discipline
  • CHRP (Certified Human Resources Profession) designation, an asset
  • Bilingual French and English, both verbal and written skills, mandatory
