Job description

Join a passionate and collaborative team at Detechtion Technologies, where innovation meets purpose. We're seeking a resourceful and experienced Human Resources Generalist to support our Canadian operations.

About the Role

We’re looking for a highly organized and adaptable Human Resources Generalist to provide comprehensive support to our Calgary-based employees and serve as the local HR point of contact. This role is responsible for delivering day-to-day HR operations, ensuring compliance with Canadian labor laws, coordinating administrative functions, and fostering a positive workplace culture. You will also collaborate closely with the U.S. HR function to ensure alignment of policies, procedures, and company-wide initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary HR contact for the Calgary office, supporting all employees and departments locally.
  • Collaborate with the Sr. HR Manager in Houston to ensure seamless communication, policy alignment, and reporting across regions.
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian labor laws, employment standards, and provincial regulations, including maintaining accurate records and ensuring company policies reflect legal requirements.
  • Manage and coordinate benefits administration for Canadian employees, including enrollment, changes, and annual renewals in partnership with benefits providers.
  • Support the recruitment process for Canadian roles: create and post job listings, coordinate interviews, conduct reference checks, and facilitate new hire onboarding.
  • Partner with managers to support employee relations, performance conversations, and day-to-day HR inquiries.
  • Coordinate and facilitate training programs, including onboarding, compliance training, and occasional professional development sessions.
  • Assist in the development and administration of HR policies, procedures, and documentation for the Canadian office.
  • Provide payroll support by ensuring accurate employee data, processing changes, and acting as a liaison between the Canadian payroll provider and the Accounting Team.
  • Track and manage employee records, leaves of absence, vacation balances, and time-off policies in alignment with regional guidelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity when managing employee matters and handling HR documentation.
  • Support HR reporting and metrics tracking, including headcount, turnover, training compliance, and employee satisfaction.
  • Lead or support local employee engagement initiatives, wellness efforts, and events to foster a strong culture.
  • Assist with annual audits, including compliance, payroll, and benefits reporting, as needed.
  • Perform other HR-related duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a generalist role supporting Canadian employees.
  • Strong knowledge of Alberta and federal Canadian employment laws, labor standards, and HR best practices.
  • Experience with benefits administration, recruitment, and payroll coordination in a Canadian setting.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills; able to balance multiple priorities across regions.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively across time zones and teams.
  • Proficiency in HRIS platforms (experience with Rippling is a plus).
  • Experience supporting team members is preferred.
  • CHRP or CHRL designation (completed or in progress) is an asset.

Why Join Us?

  • Collaborative Culture: Be part of a tight-knit, team committed to continuous improvement and people-first leadership.
  • Cross-Border Impact: Help shape HR practices across Canada and the U.S. while being embedded in a growing Calgary-based team.
  • Professional Growth: Gain exposure to a wide variety of HR disciplines and initiatives.
  • Total Compensation: We offer competitive salary, benefits, and a supportive environment that values your contributions.
