The Coulson Group of Companies has been in business for 63 years. The company was founded in 1960 in Port Alberni, BC, and has evolved from what was once a small logging company into a large conglomerate of companies working in a variety of industries, including aviation, manufacturing, dining, and gaming.

This position will support all of Coulson Group of Companies, which includes Coulson Aircrane, Coulson Aviation USA, Coulson Aviation Australia, and Rim Rock Casino.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

We are seeking a Human Resources Business Partner with strong strategic and interpersonal skills, coupled with sound business judgment. The successful candidate should have the experience necessary to assist the HR Director in the planning, leadership, direction and development of policies, activities, and supervision of departmental staff.

This position is based in Port Alberni, BC Canada. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be a key contributor to the growth and development of the Human Resources department by implementing human resources strategies, establishing department accountabilities; including talent acquisition, staffing, employment processing, compensation, training and development, records management, succession planning, employee relations and retention.
  • Partner with and advise all levels of stakeholders and management and their departments to develop and improve team effectiveness, and synergy with each other department within the company.
  • Assist in the development of company strategies by identifying and researching human resources issues and implementing human resources strategies as directed.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal, employment related regulatory requirements to reduce risk and ensure compliance including through educating and guiding line managers.
  • Accomplishes special projects by identifying and clarifying issues and priorities; communicating and coordinating requirements; expediting fulfilment; evaluating milestone accomplishments; evaluating optional courses of action; changing direction as required to accomplish objectives.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years of diverse human resource experience is required, showing progression in role over time.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment related laws and regulations.
  • Experience mentoring co-workers or direct reports.
  • Exposure to creating learning & development platforms/training
  • Proficiency with different types of HR software programs (HRIS, ATS, compensation & benefits programs, etc.
  • Familiar with and experienced in completing internal and external compensation reviews/research.
  • Comfortable with taking on special projects as assigned (Employment Equity, Accessibility Planning, internal initiatives, etc.)

Preferred Experience/Abilities:

  • Post secondary degree is preferred, but not a requirement
  • CPHR designation is preferred, but not a requirement

  • Proficient with MS Office products

This salary for this position will range between $90,000 and $110,000 per year, with access to employer paid extended health benefits and a registered pension plan.
