Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. About the role

Canadian Blood Services is seeking a Temporary Full-time Human Resources Business Partner to join our Employee Relations team within the People, Culture and Performance division.

The Employee Relations team supports Canadian Blood Services by partnering with and supporting leaders to achieve their objectives in a highly regulated, complex environment. The successful candidate will develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with stakeholders including leaders, employees, and unions.

In this role, you will provide strategic input on operational issues and be responsible for regional delivery of business partner services that support organizational objectives. You will understand the needs of divisions and departments, assist in talent planning, coach on people management, and advise on People, Culture and Performance programs, policies, and services. As part of the team, you will ensure work aligns with strategic goals through collaboration.

  • Utilize strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment, tact, and discretion to partner with Business Leaders in identifying, recommending, and implementing solutions for operational people management issues, including skills and capability development for strategic goals.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership and a commitment to teamwork by partnering with Employee Relations and Business Leaders to develop and deliver programs, communicate changes, and facilitate integration of people strategies into business plans.
  • Support organizational structure changes and provide input on people management issues, ensuring best practices in HR are applied to change initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with Union Representatives through open dialogue, proactive problem-solving, and participation in Labour Management Committee meetings, grievance meetings, and negotiations.
  • Represent People, Culture, and Performance at arbitration and third-party hearings.
  • Analyze complex issues and advise on displacement and termination, including attending employee meetings as needed.
  • Participate in regular Labour Management Committee meetings to address and resolve issues proactively.

Drawing on your growth mindset and experience, proactively partner with Business Leaders to identify opportunities for technological, process, and program enhancements to meet objectives.

Desired education and skills
  • University degree in Human Resources, Labour Relations, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation preferred.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience as a Business Partner in a unionized environment.
  • Thorough understanding of HR best practices, trends, employment, labor relations, and human rights legislation.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Equivalent education, training, and experience may be considered.
