SYMY Recruitment is partnering with a large construction company in Hay River, Northwest Territories to hire a Human Resource Coordinator. You’ll own full-cycle recruitment for seasonal and trades staff, onboarding, and scheduling across active projects, ensuring operations stay on track and workers are deployed efficiently.

Based in Hay River, this full-time role offers relocation assistance and negotiable housing. Typical hours are Monday to Friday, with occasional overtime and travel.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of HR experience with supervisory responsibilities.
  • Experience with seasonal or trades-based workforces (camp/construction/oilfield).
  • Strong knowledge of labor laws and employment legislation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and payroll software.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

SYMY Recruitment is proud to be working with a large, dynamic, growth oriented Construction company in Hay River, Northwest Territories, to find their next Human Resource Coordinator. Our client operates a workforce that scales with the seasons and needs a HR professional who thrives on keeping people, schedules, and paperwork moving in sync.

About the Role

Recruitment & onboarding for personnel including temporary, seasonal, and trades is a core part of this position. You'll own the full-cycle hiring process for a workforce that fluctuates by season, keeping the pipeline moving so operations never stall.

Workforce & resource management, including scheduling, planning and coordinating staffing levels and shift/crew scheduling across active projects and seasons will be a large part of this role.

Coordination of group benefit plans for workers, ensuring seasonal and permanent staff are enrolled and supported correctly through Employee Health Benefit programs.

Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies*, procedures, and employee handbooks*, ensuring compliance with local, territorial, and federal laws (e.g., labor standards, WSCC).

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruitment & Staffing: Manage the full recruitment process: drafting job descriptions, sourcing candidates, interviewing, drafting employment contracts and onboarding new hires*, maximize human resources efficiency, administer terminations.
  • Employee Relations: Assist with employee documentation requests. Address employee concerns, investigate complaints, and mediate conflicts to promote a positive workplace culture. Coordinate employee training and career development*
  • Policies & Compliance: Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies*, procedures, and employee handbooks*, ensuring compliance with local, territorial, and federal laws (e.g., labor standards, WSCC).
  • Compensation & Benefits: Assist payroll staff with administration of employee Health and wellness benefits programs, and, Group Registered Retirement Savings plans, leaves of absence, and assist with wage benchmarking.
  • Supervise & Support Payroll Administration: oversee the bi-weekly payroll process, assist with verifying timesheets, tracking attendance, and coordinating with payroll staff for accurate processing. Backup for bi-weekly payroll function
  • Performance Management: Coordinate performance appraisal processes and provide guidance to managers on performance issues and disciplinary actions.
  • Records Maintenance: Maintain accurate employee data, digital files, including training and employee certifications records*

** These responsibilities & tasks are shared with or assigned in part to the HSE department

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Education: A degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. Equivalencies may be considered.
  • Experience: 3+ years of HR experience including supervisory responsibility, ideally with exposure to seasonal, temp, or trades-based workforces. Camp, construction, oilfield, or similar industries are a strong fit
  • Legal Knowledge: Strong understanding of labor laws and employment legislation.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent interpersonal, communication, discretion, conflict-resolution, and organizational skills, ability to work in a team.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience with payroll software.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong data entry skills to maintain organized and accurate records.
Location: This position is based in Hay River, Northwest Territories
Relocation assistance, flexible housing arrangements are negotiable.

Usual hours of work are Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm (12pm - 1pm Lunch break). Overtime & occasional weekend work & travel may be required.
