Winpak is looking for a Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to join their team in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
This role actively partners with client group leaders to shape and execute strategic HR initiatives that foster employee engagement, talent retention, and organizational growth. As a trusted advisor, the HRBP builds strong relationships across functions, contributing to strategic planning and implementing OneWinpak HR principles, policies, and best practices. Through effective guidance and collaboration, the HRBP ensures that HR strategies are seamlessly integrated into operations to advance the company’s goals and strengthen workforce engagement.
Reporting to the Director of Human Resources Flexible Packaging, the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) collaborates closely with Centers of Expertise (CoE) Leaders and client groups to and facilitate critical HR functions, including safety, labor relations, performance management, succession planning, compensation, workforce planning, employee relations, and talent acquisition.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic HR Partnerships – Serve as a trusted advisor to managers, collaborating with HR leadership and centers of expertise to implement strategies that align with business objectives.
- Health & Wellness – Partner with Health & Safety professionals to ensure compliance, promote a safe workplace, and support wellness programs, including benefits and return-to-work processes.
- Employee & Labour Relations – Address employee concerns, administration of collective agreement, lead grievance investigations, resolve conflicts, and ensure a positive work environment.
- Diversity, Equity & Inclusion – Champion DEI initiatives to create an inclusive workplace that fosters employee success and belonging.
- Performance & Talent Development – Support managers with performance reviews, coaching, and development planning, ensuring employees have opportunities to grow and succeed.
- Compensation & Succession Planning – Facilitate compensation reviews, ensuring external competitiveness and internal equity while enabling leadership succession.
- Disability Case Management – Oversee disability cases, accommodations, and return-to-work programs to support employees’ successful reintegration.
- Employee Engagement & Onboarding – Enhance onboarding processes, improve new hire experiences, and implement engagement strategies that drive retention.
- HR Operations & Reporting – Supervise HR Coordinators, manage policies, maintain accurate HR records, and leverage metrics for data-driven decision-making.
- Safety & Compliance – Work with leadership to develop and implement workplace safety programs that ensure psychological and physical well-being.
Education and Experience:
- University degree and/or college diploma in business administration and/or human resources or a related field, preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive human resources leadership experience in a unionized environment
- Proven experience as an HR advisor with a strong background in facilitating core HR functions at the operating (facility) level and providing effective HR support and advice to leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and maintain HR practices, processes, and guidelines, ensuring consistent application and compliance with local legal, legislative, and regulatory requirements.
- Strong business insight with experience applying a business-case mentality to HR functions, including cost/benefit analyses, ROI analytics, and performance metrics (KPIs).
- Well-developed leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence a matrixed organization. Experience orchestrating successful change management initiatives.
- Highly focused on client needs, outcome-oriented, and self-motivated to evolve and grow HR functions from current to future state, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Exceptional communicator, skilled in fostering strong business relationships and effectively communicating at all organizational levels to drive HR initiatives and strategies.
- Able to work constructively within management teams, with the capability to represent the organization professionally and contribute to collaborative decision-making processes.
- Experience and credentials that inspire confidence and trust. Ability to establish oneself as the “go-to” HR resource for leaders on all talent-related matters.
- Strong ability to manage competing priorities, keep multiple initiatives on track, and drive them toward successful completion while ensuring attention to detail and progress on each.
- Working knowledge of HRIS systems and MS Office applications (e.g., ATS, HRIS, etc.)
