Job summary

PCL Constructors Canada Inc. is seeking an HSE Student for our Ottawa district, Halifax, Nova Scotia, to contribute to safety programs and real project work. You will assist with inspections, trainings, and environmental monitoring while gaining hands-on experience on live sites.

The role runs for 4 months from January 2027 and offers weekly pay, onboarding support, and opportunities to grow into full-time roles within the PCL family.

Qualifications

• Ability to implement HSE program elements and safe operating procedures.
• Knowledge of environmental requirements and the ability to implement systems meeting compliance.
• Ability to plan and employ preventative measures to reduce hazards and determine incident causes.
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
• Strong willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Assisting the HSE Professional with inspections and incidental investigations.
• Assisting with the orientation of new employees.
• Developing training materials.
• Reviewing paperwork (e.g., PSI, tailgate meetings, safework procedure, trend analysis).
• Monitoring and maintaining the environmental program.
• Recognizing and following PCL and local legislative requirements.
• Analyzing site-specific trends and incidents and reporting findings to district.
• Gathering/reviewing/distributing safety-related statistical information.
• Interpreting, communicating, and reinforcing project safety standards to workforce.
