Job summary

Hillel Ontario is seeking a Senior HR Operations Specialist to deliver an integrated employee experience across payroll, benefits, leave, onboarding/offboarding, job descriptions, and performance cycles. The role ensures backend HR processes are accurate, compliant, and aligned with our mission-driven culture.

The successful candidate will manage HRIS workflows, partner with Finance, and support nonprofit governance while maintaining staff engagement across 50+ employees.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of progressive HR operations experience.
• Strong knowledge of payroll systems, HRIS platforms, benefits administration, and employment legislation.
• Experience managing full employee lifecycle processes.
• Exceptional attention to detail, confidentiality, and data accuracy.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to support staff at all levels.
• Experience designing or improving HR processes, workflows, and documentation.
• Ability to work collaboratively across departments and build trust with employees and managers.
• CHRP/CHRL designation an asset but not required.
• Experience in organizations with 50+ employees preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for all staff, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Administer benefits programs and serve as liaison with providers.
• Manage all leave programs and ensure policy compliance.
• Design onboarding experiences integrating HR, IT, facilities, and departments.
• Coordinate offboarding and termination processes with proper documentation.
• Maintain HRIS data integrity and reporting.
• Develop and update job descriptions across departments.
• Lead performance review cycles and recognition programs.
• Ensure HR processes are integrated with operations and finance.
• Support nonprofit governance requirements and grant reporting.
