Job description

HR Generalist Six-Month Temporary

Salary Range: $75,000 - $100,000

Location: Alberta with the ability to drive to Entwistle and fly into High Level

Job Description

As HR Generalist at Drax, you will support our Pellet Operations and Corporate Groups. This includes supporting recruiting activities led by the Talent Acquisition team, HRIS entries, performance management, employee relations, and supporting investigations. You will coach business leaders to enhance their people management skills and support operational teams in Alberta, including Entwistle and High Level. Additionally, you will assist the HR Director with core services functions such as Finance, IT, and Sustainability.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Advise managers and employees on routine business matters, providing guidance on performance management, conflict resolution, and disciplinary issues.
  2. Coach managers on communication, feedback, recognition, and interactions with their teams.
  3. Interpret and administer HR policies and programs, providing guidance to team members and managers.
  4. Assist with investigations, ensuring adherence to Drax's Dignity at Work policies.
  5. Support onboarding activities for new employees.
  6. Collaborate with the Northern Operations HR Team on local HR policies, programs, and training materials, maintaining confidentiality.
  7. Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within the plants.
  8. Maintain open communication within the HR team to foster teamwork.
  9. Participate in disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  10. Work with HR and other teams to identify training needs.
  11. Handle employment-related inquiries, escalating complex issues as needed.
  12. Assist with leave-related matters such as STD, LTD, WCB, and Return to Work planning.
  13. Support various ad-hoc HR projects.
About You

You possess the following skills, abilities, and experience:

  • 3-5 years of HR experience, preferably in a wood products manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Human Resources or a related field.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and composure when handling sensitive information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with diverse individuals.
  • Knowledge of Alberta employment law and HR best practices.
  • High attention to detail and sense of urgency.
  • Self-motivated and independent worker.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to influence leadership and support decision-making.
