Job summary

The Downtown Eastside Women's Centre (DEWC) is seeking a Housing Outreach Worker to provide outreach services to women living in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, helping them establish and maintain safe housing from a feminist, anti-oppression perspective.

Reporting to the Specialized Services Manager, this role requires 2+ years of experience with marginalized women, trauma-informed practice, strong organizational skills, and the ability to coordinate assisted referrals.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years related experience, preferably with marginalized women.
  • Knowledge of issues affecting women in the DTES (gender-based violence, mental health, homelessness, substance use).
  • Ability to work in a busy, crisis-driven environment with multiple demands.
  • Strong organizational skills including record keeping and scheduling.
  • Experience providing assisted referrals and familiarity with local services.
  • First Aid Certification and NVCI are expected or will be obtained.

  • Provide outreach services to women in the Downtown Eastside to establish and maintain safe housing.
  • Promote the DEWC mission within an anti-oppression framework and feminist perspective.

Job description

The Downtown Eastside Women's Centre (DEWC) exists to support and empower women and children, living in extreme poverty in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, who are particularly vulnerable to violence, exploitation, injustice and injury. Through low barrier Drop-In Centers and Emergency Shelters, DEWC provides basic need services, programs, and specialized supports to over 1000 women and children daily to help them survive the conditions that surround them. The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Specialized Services Manager, the Housing Outreach Worker will provide outreach services to women who live in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, supporting them in establishing and maintaining appropriate safe housing. She will work from a feminist perspective and within an anti-oppression framework.

About You
  • You have at least 2 years related experience, preferably working with marginalized women.
  • You are knowledgeable of the issues impacting women in the dtes, including gender-based violence, mental health, homelessness, and substance use with understanding of trauma- informed care responses.
  • You will promote and articulate the mission, mandate, philosophy, and values of DEWC.
  • You have the ability to work within a busy, chaotic, crises driven environment where there are multiple demands and prioritize.
  • You have efficient organizational skills including record keeping, scheduling, and problem-solving abilities.
  • You have demonstrated experience providing assisted referral as well as familiarity with support services, agencies and community resources in the dtes.
  • You have or will obtain a First Aid Certification and NVCI.
