Steele Hotels is seeking a part-time Host for our JAG Hotel in St. John’s, NL. The role requires a friendly, professional attitude and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment across varying day and night shifts.

Responsibilities include greeting guests, coordinating seating, escorting guests to tables, handling reservations, and answering guest inquiries. Hospitality experience is an asset, with emphasis on communication and organization.

Qualifications

• Availability to work weekday daytime hours, as well as evenings, weekends, and holidays, is required.
• Experience in hospitality is an asset
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with guests and manage inquiries
• Strong organizational skills to monitor reservations, wait times, and table availability
• Attention to detail in maintaining a tidy, welcoming front-of-house environment
• Familiarity with health, safety, and food handling regulations
• Proficiency with reservation and POS systems
• Ability to remain calm and professional in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment
• Problem-solving skills to managing seating challenges or special requests effectively

• Coordinate with serving staff to ensure efficient seating arrangements
• Escort guests to tables
• Notify guests when a table becomes available and provide wait time information
• Manage reservations via phone, in-person, on through online platforms
• Answer incoming calls and address customer inquiries
• Assist with menu inquiries, answering questions about food and beverages, as needed
• Perform other duties, as assigned

Founded in 1970, Steele Hotels is an independent hotel operator based out of Newfoundland and Labrador Canada. With origins in Gander, NL the company has grown to include 8 properties located in St. John's, NL, Corner Brook, NL, and Fredericton, NB.

Steele Hotels is looking for a part-time Host to join its growing team at our JAG Hotel in St. John’s, NL. The ideal candidate would possess a positive "can-do" attitude, and a high level of professionalism, coupled with a strong work ethic and critical thinking skills. This often involves working in fast-paced environment conditions at varying times throughout the day or night.
