Job summary

The Royal in Ottawa, Ontario is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to provide services within the regulatory scope and support medication distribution and patient care units. The role involves using Epic EHR and Omnicell platforms, handling medication preparation, and mentoring learners.

Ideal candidates will have OCP registration, strong communication, and teamwork, with a focus on accuracy, safety, and adherence to policies.

Qualifications

Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) is mandatory.
Hospital experience is an asset.
Experienced in performing pharmaceutical calculations.
Familiar with commonly used health care terminology.
Professional attitude, honest and dependable.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Attentive to details.
Customer-service oriented.
Familiar with pharmacy law, ethics, conduct related law, privacy and liability issues within pharmacy settings.
Must successfully complete standard training upon hire, i.e. pharmacy systems, applicable technology, etc.
Familiar with basic inventory skills related to storage, security and legal issues.

Responsibilities

Perform all responsibilities within the scope of practice for Pharmacy Technicians, in accordance with NAPRA Model Standards and Ontario College of Pharmacists standards.
Operate Epic EHR, Omnicell XT, Omnicell CPM, OCRA, PacMed and other platforms supporting dispensing and distribution.
Participate in medication distribution activities and provide pharmacy support for accurate medication management.
Act as a preceptor and provide guidance for pharmacy technician students and learners.
Participate in Best Possible Medication History activities.
Package, prepare and deliver pharmaceutical products to patient care units and facilities as required.
Promote high standards of performance by modeling best practices and guiding staff.
Ensure all distribution processes, documentation, and workflows comply with policies.
Maintain quality controls and communicate issues to pharmacy teams and partners.
Use good communication skills and multi-task effectively.
Work in line with department procedures, accreditation and regulatory expectations.
Ensure timely completion of duties and safety for staff and patients.
Support safety practices and anti-discrimination policies at The Royal.
Contribute to continuous quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
