Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Hospital Manager to join our vibrant NVA Canada community in Barrie!

The Opportunity

As the Hospital Manager, your role will be an integral member of the veterinary hospital leadership team. You will partner with the Managing DVM to run a smooth and profitable operation by driving revenue and managing costs, while creating a positive hospital culture that thrives on high quality patient care and top-notch customer service. You bridge the gap between day-to-day hospital operations and NVA Canada. Reporting to the Manager of Regional Operations, you’ll own the daily operations of the hospital by providing exceptional people management, smooth operations, strategic planning & financials, and exceptional client services.

What you will do:

  • Actively manage team performance by setting clear goals and fostering a high performing team to ensure exceptional patient care.
  • Provide coaching and development to team members ensuring they have the necessary skills to provide exceptional service to patients.
  • Resolve client issues and escalations quickly and oversee client follow up communications and procedures, including reminders and call backs.
  • Partner with Managing DVM to address staffing needs including hiring, training, reviewing and performance management of team members.
  • Take ownership of hospital operations such as creating and maintaining hospital policy including CVO/Controlled Substances and Health and Safety compliance, monitoring computer systems to resolve issues, educating team members on hospital policies and procedures, and managing and fostering vendor relationships.
  • Facilitate employee onboarding, training and development, and annual performance reviews.
  • Track and maintain current licensures for all DVMs.
  • Manage conflict in a timely manner and maintain a positive employee experience and team culture.
  • Ensure payroll is completed and submitted for all hospital staff including DVM production payments.
  • Manage hospital inventory and control facility and administrative costs, continually driving revenue and managing costs to budget.
  • Drive client visits through strategic communication and local marketing efforts (ie. Community).
  • Utilize and implement the NVA Incentive Bonus Plan to meet hospital goals.
  • Manage all hospital staff, including grooming and boarding staff where applicable.
  • Performs other duties essential to the performance of the hospital as assigned.
What you bring:
  • Proven experience leading teams and managing day to day operations.
  • Proficient in navigating ambiguity and making well-informed decisions, willing to take calculated risks and remain resilient during times of uncertainty.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of operational strategy and adept in aligning team goals with organizational objectives, demonstrating confidence in leading team through period of change.
  • Collaborative by nature, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A knack for organization and time management.
  • A love for animals and a love for people who love them.
It’s a bonus if you have:
  • Experience working in the veterinarian or dental and healthcare industries, or retain and hospitality management
  • Skilled in building teams and maintaining a high performing culture.
  • Experience with payroll, budgeting, and annual goal setting.
  • Familiarity with MS Suite, Ceridian Dayforce and PIMS software deemed advantageous.
