Job description

Reporting to the Director, Patient Care Services, the Manager, Patient Care Services (MPCS) provides front line professional and administrative leadership for the team in the delivery of mental health services. The MPCS is accountable for the quality of Forensic Mental Health Service clients receive and for monitoring and maintaining appropriate standards of an interdisciplinary professional mental health team in accordance with established standards of practice and policy.
Duties:
  • Provides an administrative and clinical management presence during evenings, nights, and weekends.
  • Acts as the point of contact after hours for the interdisciplinary team, other departments, and external stakeholders regarding patient care.
  • Manages emergencies off hours and deploys staff as needed.
  • Ensures patient safety by monitoring assignments and intervening, reassigning, or taking over patient care in extraordinary circumstances.
  • Participates in the efficient and effective assignment and utilization of human resources to maintain safe staffing levels, adhering to applicable collective agreements, policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Coordinates inter-agency patient flow and bed access in collaboration with staff.
  • Ensures work is performed within hospital policy, guidelines, and regulatory standards established by the College of Nurses.
  • Oversees and evaluates nursing care, providing opportunities for improved patient outcomes.
  • Ensures deployment of resources in response to emergency codes.
  • Monitors and responds with recommendations to eIMS reports for all shifts as required.
  • Assists other managers of clinical programs as needed.
  • Participates in the recruitment of qualified personnel and manages disciplinary actions, including termination of direct reports.
  • Coaches, mentors, and supports employees through performance reviews and attendance management programs.
  • Provides input into operating and capital budget development for programs as requested.
  • Works in a manner that promotes staff and patient safety, aligned with The Royal’s policies and procedures.
  • Ensures a work environment that supports The Royal’s Anti-Racism, Harassment & Discrimination-Free Workplace policy.
Qualifications:
  • Baccalaureate degree in Allied Health or Nursing, or an acceptable combination of education and experience depending on the program area.
  • Current registration and good standing with the applicable regulatory college is preferred.
  • CPMHN(c) certification is an asset.
  • Recent leadership experience is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of clinical experience in acute care is required.
  • Membership in a professional nursing or related organization is preferred.
  • Completion of CPI or equivalent and CPR certification within the last 12 months.
  • Understanding of MHA and relevant legislation.
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • Must complete RAI-MH training upon hire; input into the RAI-MH system is required.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships.
  • Budget management experience is an asset.
  • English language proficiency at level A- is mandatory for oral expression, comprehension, reading, and writing. Bilingual (French/English) skills are an asset.
