Job summary

Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a Cooks Helper to work in the Northern Zone at Colchester East Hants Health Centre. The role involves preparing fresh to order room service items for patients in a fast-paced line cooking team, with attention to recipe ingredients, cost control and food safety.

The position requires Grade 12, a Food Safety course, and at least 1 year of related experience, plus strong communication and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent required.
• Food Safety and Sanitation Course required or willingness to obtain within six months.
• One year related experience required.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to work well in a team and under time pressure.
• Physical capability for heavy lifting, standing/walking, heat and temperature fluctuations.
• Ability to work weekends and rotating shifts.
• French language skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare fresh-to-order room service items for patients, clients and customers.
• Assist in ingredient control, measuring and portioning for the patient menu.
• Follow cost control, safe food handling, allergy and menu standards.
• Provide overall customer service in line with department standards.
