Job summary

Lookout Housing and Health Society seeks a Homemaker at Tamura House to maintain a clean, orderly shelter environment and support residents with daily needs.

Report to Site Manager; COR certification and WorkSafeBC rules apply. Respirator fit testing requires a clean-shaven face. Shifts are 7.5 hours, with rotating days, evenings, nights, and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Must have Grade 12 or higher with 1 year of related experience.
  • Current Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate required.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Clean rooms, change and make beds, do laundry, and stock supplies.
  • General cleaning of rooms, walls, windows, floors, and washrooms.
  • Organize donations and oversee volunteers.
  • Assist clients with personal hygiene and nutrition as needed.
  • Do not sleep during shifts; stay alert during assigned hours.
  • Comply with health and safety policies and reporting requirements.

18 minute walk from Waterfront Skytrain Station

Days and Hours of work

7 days a week, day, afternoon/evening and overnight shifts, weekdays, weekends and holidays
Shifts are 7.5hours in length
Days of rest shall be consecutive. Schedule may change with two weeks’ notice
Probationary/qualifying period will be 488 hours with mid and end point reviews

$23.89 - 25.54 depending upon applicants' length of seniority (as per the Collective Agreement)

Job Summary

The Homemaker reports to the Site Manager and works in accordance with the mission and philosophy of Lookout Housing and Health Society including following Lookout’s Code of Ethics. The Homemaker performs a variety of cleaning duties ensuring the cleanliness and tidiness of resident and/or shelter rooms and communal areas.

This position requires successful completion of respirator fit testing, as Lookout is COR (Certificate of Recognition) certified and must comply with WorkSafeBC health and safety requirements. To ensure a proper respirator seal during fit testing and use, employees are required to be clean-shaven where the respirator seals against the face.

Job Duties
  • Clean rooms, change and make beds, do laundry, keep supplies organized and stocked, keep personal care supplies organized
  • General cleaning, laundry, washing, and disinfecting areas such as walls, windows, ceilings, floors, carpets, air vents, furniture, mattresses, blinds, and washrooms
  • Organize donations and oversee and direct volunteers
  • Assist clientele with personal hygiene and nutrition as needed
  • Employees are expected to remain alert and attentive during working hours. Sleeping during shifts is not permitted
  • Responsible for complying with and contributing to all aspects of health and safety program
Qualifications & Competence
  • Minimum Grade 12 education plus one (1) year of recent related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Must have current Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate
  • Crisis Intervention Skills Training is an asset
  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting
  • Ability to manage and organize workload
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and clearly, both verbally and in writing
  • Must understand and maintain clientele/worker boundaries
  • Ability to work with disadvantaged and challenging adults in a diverse environment
  • Quick learner and self-motivated
  • Strong physical and mental ability to perform work tasks
  • Must be able to operate job related equipment such as laundry machines, etc.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of sobriety if you have had concerns related to alcohol and/or drug use
  • Criminal Record Clearance – Vulnerable Sector
