Job summary

Civic Recruitment Limited is seeking a Housing Officer on a 3‑month contract with a local authority. The post holder will manage homelessness caseloads, assess evidence, and determine when statutory duties can end under the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.

Qualifications

• Experience managing homelessness or frontline housing caseloads.
• Knowledge of Housing Act duties and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
• Experience making statutory housing decisions and writing notifications.
• Strong written communication and stakeholder engagement.
• Experience with vulnerable residents.
• Level 4/5 Housing qualification and CIH membership.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of homelessness applications to lawful conclusions.
• Assess evidence and housing circumstances to determine when statutory duties end.
• Prepare and issue clear, legally compliant statutory notifications and decision letters.
• Ensure decisions are documented and can withstand review or legal challenge.
• Maintain Personal Housing Plans (PHPs) with accurate actions and outcomes.
• Engage applicants to acceptance of suitable accommodation options.
• Identify safeguarding concerns and escalate appropriately.
• Communicate complex housing decisions clearly to residents and stakeholders.
• Assist residents with housing options, welfare benefits, and support services.
• Maintain audit-ready case records and information governance.
